Fuller died in 1880. He did not turn out a great many guns; mainly muzzle loaders, but all I have seen were of exceptional quality. Lagopus.....

I was intrigued that the gun in Oldfarmers' photos referred to Prince Albert as "Alfred Windsor." I was of the understanding that he, and his dynasty were referred to as "Saxe-Coburg-Gotha," and that the name was only changed to Windsor during the First World War; the same way Battenberg became Mountbatten.

Charles Playfair of Aberdeen was another gunmaker that jumped on the bandwagon.
He was "maker to the Prince Consort" and maker to the late Prince Consort" and just like the Perrins label above, had a huge Royal Warrant mounted above his door.
From what I have uncovered over the years he played on this to the full extent. On one occasion, knowing the Queen and Prince would pass his shop on a royal engagement (he was on Union Street, the main street to get anywhere in the city), he had the warrant further embellished and the front of his shop decorated.
I can only speculate that the Prince somehow came across Playfair on-route to Balmoral.

Also, recently acquired Graham Greener's new book on the Greener Collection. He also depicts some examples of guns indicating that he was also a Maker to the Prince Consort. Lagopus.....

the only thing that's really bugging me right now is whether Paton actually applied for and got the warrant of appointment in 1870, or simply started calling himself 'maker to the late Prince Consort'. I wrote an article assuming the former, and it would be embarrassing if it were the latter. But that's the question noone's been able to answer so far.
But it's awesome how many gunmakers believed in the advertising power of Albert's name! Shows the influence the man had on Brittish shooting scene.

I understand that he also had quite a bit of influence as to the type of military guns that were used too. Also introduced the idea of the Christmas Tree to Britain. Lagopus.....
