Well, it's a Westley Richards rook rifle - a nice one of the type built on a Martini action. I see this one is good out to 400 meters cool (WR always seemed to psyche their customers up by putting really tall rear sights on their rifles.)

The ad copy of the day is very interesting:

.300 Rook was actually a centerfire cartridge, so having ammo made would be more possible than one of the extinct rimfires.

Is it possibly a .300 Sherwood or was that a proprietary/trademarked name?

This maybe chambered for a Cartridge similar to a .300 Rook ?

I have been unable to find the dimentions for a .300 Rook

The chamber is way too long for a .300 Sherwood ?

I just did a chamber cast and found:

Case length from Case Head to Mouth ~1.80 Inches

The case tapers from 3.19 in front of the rim to 3.00 at the case mouth.

The Groove measurement is .296, and across the lands is .299

So what cases Dies and mold should I order ?

Thanks in advance !

My books show the Sherwood with a case length of 1.550. Base diameter (above the rim) is .3201 tapering to .3181 at the neck. .3748 rim dia. So it's in the ball park and the Sherwood is a WR proprietary cartridge fielded to compete with the 310 Cadet. How long after the cast did you take the dimensions? I ask that because a .299 bore dia. and a .300 case dia. only leaves 1/1000th for case wall thickness. That's thin. Too thin. Even considering they made much thinner cases in those days. I haven't done a chamber cast in a long time but I recall that the cast takes and hour or so reach full dimensions.

.300 Rook is:
OAL (loaded is 2.0402
Case length 1.152.
Rim diameter .3748.
Base diameter (above rim) is .3189 tapering to .3181 at the mouth.

Sweet rifle.

Cute! You don't see many rooks with the detachable barrels system.

I took the measurements 1 hour after casting - when cerrosafe is supposed to be the exact size.

Below are a few photos of the cast, and if you think this cast is crappy you should see the first one I did ! smile

After looking at other casts - I do believe this may use a Heel type bullet as there is barely a transition from case mouth to Leade.
