I would also consider having a good gunsmith cut proper forcing cones in the barrels. The gun was definitely made to shoot brass hulls. You could try loading some brass hulls and see if that cures your problem. proper 10 gauge hulls are available from www.trackofthewolf.com. They are copies all the hulls Parker Brothers supplied. Very high quality. Here's the exact link: http://www.trackofthewolf.com/Categories/PartDetail.aspx/1210/1/SHOT-SHELL-10-2-78. Oh, I think these are for black powder only.

Thanks to all who replied. Can't really see having forcing cones cut seeing how the bores are already .800. I believe Rocky Mountain makes the brass shells for Track of the Wolf. I have thought of that. The stock has the same diamentions as my other eight SxS's so I was hoping that wasn't it. A buddy loads PB so I'll get some powder from him and try the suggested loads. Or maybe go to fiber wads - trying to remember [ a problem at my age ] - think recoil was ok with them. Thank again - Paul

Come to think of it, I have two old 10ga brass shells. Have to dig em up and try them - though I might have to cut em off to fit. Paul

I really think you will find the problem is internal and not stock dimensions, etc. Did you check the headspace? And I still think the lack of forcing cones could be a contributory item.
I once had a LC Smith that kicked incredibly hard and discovered it had about 1/16 too much headspace and that was the cause of the excessive recoil.
You should know that Blackpowder and fiber wads in the brass hulls will kick pretty hard. I would still try it though.

I checked headspace - maybe .005. As for forcing cones - there's no need - the bore is bigger than the inside of the shell. I believe a big part of the problem is that I'm use to shooting 3/4 oz 12ga loads. Yesterday I shot some 12 [ with Gaugemates ]and 10 ga loads through it - both 1 oz. Recoil was the same - not too bad. Guess I'll live with it. Thanks to all - Paul
