things?

I've gotten advice as to whether I should fix or disconnect the ejectors, but sadly I haven't the slightest as to how to take the infernal thing apart.

Take off the screw on the bottom towards the muzzle, the tilt the box down and away from the knuckle on the fore end iron. Once the box is off the dovetailed piece at the front of the box will release tension on the springs.

I thought this was fastened by a pin. Is it a screw? Does it need to be knocked out or drilled out?

That is a screw on all the ones I have seen and it does need to come out.

It looks like someone tried to both turn the stubborn screw by using a tiny chisel at it's perimeter & also drilling it out.

Don't know about the filler. Hard solder flux cools to 'glass' but that's the only thing that comes quickly to mind. It doesn't really fit in though..

Chisel/pick the hard debris out if the small areas so you don't damage tooling,,use an end mill to take the head off the screw.
You can most likely pull the box down and off the iron then. If not,,you'll have to change endmill cutters and take the screw post out too.
It'll have to go anyway in the end.

You will probably have to drill the retaining pin out . But be warned when you do get the box off it is not a simple job to step down without damage or loss .There is a retaining plate that holds the springs in place to remove first . There are also two small springs tat work on the trippers that are a constant problem in so much as they can be very brittle so extra care must be taken on there removal . Don't know what your actual problem is but the there main faults are
1 broken spring
2 broken tripper spring
3 broken swivel

Also check for worn extractor legs so that they do not cock the ejectors enough to engage .

I think for the near term I going to have to drill out the remains of the screw and the gun will become an extractor.

If you can't get the box off what do you think you can do when it is off. Why don't you just send it to some one that knows what he is doing before you scew it up.
