He needs to ask the CLA if he can exchange them for free tickets next year. It's nothing to them and worth the try. Lagopus.....

Spoke to him today, he says his wife is going to contact them, I think she is the diplomatic one. He had bought tickets but upon finding out he had won the comp in a shooting magazine, he sold them on to a couple he shoots with. He's just gutted because he'll miss out on the chauffeur driven buggy, bubbly, full breakfast and afternoon Pimms, but as you say, it's got to be worth a try with the organisers.
Can't believe the (lack of) summer this year. Think I've only been out shooting a couple of times the last few months. Tried my hand at water polo instead but my horse drowned !

Oldfarmer and Lapogus,comments please?
The deluge of rain recorded in the U.K.during June&July this year resulting in the cancellation of the Game Fair, has almost certainley severely impacted the survival rate of newly hatched wild game birds. What do you think the impact will be on organised shoots during the 2012-13 season?

Roy, wet just doesn't describe things here. Yet, conversely, in the north and western parts of Scotland, which normally has its fair share of rain, there is a drought with no rain for the last five weeks there. Last Sunday was the only dry day we've had here this month.

Most pheasant shoots aren't too bad as the birds are bought in as poults. Although wet and cool it has not been too cold to really chill the wild birds but saying that I havn't seen as many wild broods out and about on my travels that I normally do. I have been trying to contact a grouse moor keeper that I know for the last few days but can't seem to get hold of him. On the higher ground where it can get colder and with grouse being wild birds only then they may have had a hard time. Grouse Keepers are eternal pessimists so I expect negative reports anyway. I am waiting for him to give me the grouse moor shoot dates where I work my two dogs so will get a more accurate picture when I see for myself. Lagopus.....

Few pheasant shoots will be affected. Those I have spoken to have had good hatches and the birds are sheltered until they are able to cope with the weather.

Wild partridges will have suffered, I expect. However, the impact on the ability to provide shooting will not be an issue. The economic climate may well curtail the number of days most individuals can book. Most I know have cut their shooting days considerably.
