A very happy Independence Day to all my fellow Americans, and wishes for freedom for all others who live in oppressed countries touched by this forum. I am greatly appreciative of all the freedoms we enjoy, and the liberties we have, and for those who, have and continue to, serve our nation in so many ways, most of all those who serve in our military and ensure our freedoms by protecting that which we are..... "one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all". We should all remember that we sleep safely in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence upon those who would do us harm.

Now, let's celebrate this sacred day by enjoying some of our wonderful freedoms. I intend to close it out tonight by fishing for bass with "topwaters" by the light of a 99% full moon. I am indeed grateful.

Oh yeah, I'll have a El Faisan .410 S x S along for cottonmouths. ( that's all it's fit for!) wink

If it wasn't so freaking hot up here I would be BBQing some pork. I can't understand how you people in Jawja can cope with heat and humidity. If I lived there I would be a grease spot on the pavement. Anyhoo happy 4th. smile

Just got back from a big barbeque at some friends'. Must have been 120 people there. Pork, beef and chicken and all the trimmin's. Great time. As Nash once wrote, I ate "until my mind changed".

Got to rest up now. Moon rises at 9:36 tonight. Big bass will be feedin'. That Heddon Dying Flutter is gonna strut her stuff. Seduction, that's the name of that game.

I'm getting ready to head out to the gun club and shoot a few rounds with my 10 y/o son. He is going to pull the trigger on his new O/U he got last week for his birthday. The look on his face when he was opening his presents and asked, "Is this green gun case part of my presents?", and I said yep!

From a grateful neighbor to the north, whose ancestors were on the losing side of the War of Independence, Happy Independence Day, especially all who serve.

Thank you very much, well put. I would also like to extend a thank you to our friends across the pond who we once had a "minor disagreement" with, and who contribute indispensable information to this board. There will always be a bond with those we share a common heritage, and history with. There are few things that can bring friends together, like the discussion of fine guns and hunting. These topics transcend all nationalities and religions.

Although I spent my four years in the Air Force pushing a pen in Alaska during the first Gulf War, I became acutely aware of the sacrifices made by those few who put their lives on the line to protect all of us. To them I give a steadfast salute.

At times it may seem that the things that divide us are greater than the things that unite us, but I'm always reminded of Churchill's quote, "Americans can always be counted on to do the right thing...after they have exhausted all other possibilities."

Happy Independence Day everyone!

Went out to the gun club with my 10 y/o son this afternoon. He was shooting his new Sabatti 20ga O/U that he got for his birthday last week. Below are a few pictures. A great way to spend the fourth!

Thank you for that, Canvasback. And we Yanks too often forget that our former British opponents and their former English-speaking colonies have been our most resolute allies for the last century or so. In fact, they were there first while we were late-comers in a couple world wars, after which we stood together for another half century against the evils of Communism. Canvasback, I'd offer a friendly amendment to your statement: The world is a much better place because of the existence of the English-speaking democracies.

Started out with a military rifle match at 9:00 AM.
Down to the skeet fields with the son in law, grandson and friends at noon. Over to the 5 stand for five rounds about 3:00 PM. Ribs, chicken and goodies at 8:00 with lots of friends and family. Our annual gun club fire works display at 9:30
Over 100 degrees most of the day.... The display was cut short due to a fire behind the rifle berm. We need rain bad!!!!!
Still a great time!!! Thanks so much to those who preserve our freedoms!!!!
