I have come across a R.B. Rodda & Co Cape gun. I can't really find too much information on this and wanted to make sure it was an original manufacture before buying it. I don't have any photos right now but I will try to describe it as best I can to get an idea of it's authenticity.

Here is a link for the pics: http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/cpg1410/thumbnails.php?album=119

The right barrel is a shotgun barrel, possibly about a 12 gauge. The left barrel is a rifle barrel and there is good rifling through the entire barrel. It is an underlever break action centerfire with R.B Rodda & Co of London and then it has the info from their Calcutta branch.

It looks to be in very good condition and has a Serial Number on the bottom of the stock near the trigger guard, under the barrels and on on the inside of the front hand guard of 38080.

If anyone can shed any light on this I would be grateful.

I would like to thank everyone in advance for the assistance.

To me it looks as if someone has relined the rifle barrel. I didn't see any rear sights just a screw in the rib. Does it have rear sights?

I can't make out the proof marks. Are both barrels marked with a 17? If so I'd say it started life as a shotgun and someone lined the one barrel. If the screw is tapped into the rib in the middle of the makers name and address I'd also say shotgun.

Both the marks are 17's.

Looking a little closer at the rifle barrel I can see the line between the original barrel and the "inner" barrel. However the rifle barrel has a slightly smaller diamter than the shotgun barrel.

I appreciate the info.
