I am building a 12 bore from a donor JP Sauer that had destroyed barrels. I am using Savage 220 barrels set in the monoblock. I have had a great amount of help from Birdhunter (Bob) on the work as I am a riflesmith not a shotgunsmith altho I am learning. I have the barrels set in the monoblock now and the gun looks like it will weigh in at 10-11 pounds when finished if I don't pull the barrels and turn them down more. I wondered what the 12 bore's average weight is on comercial guns.
This is my first post altho I have been following along for a while here.

It depended upon the charge and ball the gun was set up for. I have seen them from 8 to 12 plus pounds. What kind of load are you going to regulate it for? If you are going for sabots, 9lbs would be my goal. If using a heavier load then more weight is a good thing.

I want to try both round ball and sabot, I thought I would try the Lyman 525 grain sabot as a starter, as I was given a working load and thought I might go ahead and regulate it to that load.

what rate of twist? Usually a round ball wants a much slower twist than a sabot. Either way with those loads I would target 9lbs.
