Well, I think I'll just scrub the stag off and get someone with a graver to scratch a Texas longhorn on it....

That is eye candy. Both guns are. I wish I was in the league for the one on Gunbroker.

I think that is a Roe deer, not a stag.

Joe, you won't do, you won't do. Put a hog on it. But then again you may only see the depiction after a long day's hunt and with proper libation you might not even notice it. Yeah, I meant Roe instead of stag. But the laugh was just as great either way.
Kind Regards,

Raimey, what I find so very interesting about the gentleman who engraved these guns is apparently he cut it free handed. That is, I don't think he even laid out a design on the metal but had it in his mind and with total freedom proceeded to cut it. Probably something he had done for so many years it became easier to engrave on a blank sheet than to follow some layout or formal dictates. It's really refreshing to see an art work that is so relaxed yet each segment complimenting the other. The work of a genius.

Maybe OT, but did Daly make any comparable drilling?

Regarding the engraving, it looks to me like it is cut real deep, much deeper than you see on most guns. It almost looks carved, and it reminds me of the work Barre did on some Purdeys. You can see an example of Barre's work at the top of this page: http://www.doublegunshop.com/fredrobertsguns.htmOWD

Yes, Steve, they did make three barreled guns. For instance, my 1909 Schoverling, Daly & Gales catalog lists two hammerless models, the 107 at $150.00 and 108 at $200.00. They were offered in either 12 or 16 gauge and 30-30 or 38-55 rifle, weighing 7 1/4 to 7 3/4 lbs. Krupp steel barrels with extension rib and crossbolt. I would feel sure higher grades could be special ordered.

Three barrel guns of Diamond Quality are seen quite a bit less often than two barrel examples.

Looks to be either a K.S. or R.S. for the tube knitter. And of course HAL over Crossed pistols. Kind Regards, Raimey rse
