Drew thanks for the pics..this gun only partially cocks the hammer with the weight of the barrels dropping doing the rest, is that how the colton worked?

Reb, I don't know if the Colton toplever completely cocked the guns or not. Gun Report of Jan, 1997 has a good article on Colton by James A Nelson.

I have two Union of Toledo guns. One is a 20 in mint condition under a private label name, the other is a well used and abused 12 under Union Arms. Neither is a match for the gun listed above. I suspect this gun was another design which never made it. That is a lot of milling to make that receiver and it is just a simple box lock with side plates.

I was told one of the problems that Remington double had with their design was too much need for milling and what was deemed to be a slightly overly complicated design. This gun seems to fit that same bill.
