What really is the meaning of a "guild gun"? I see this quite often, but I am ignorant as to what it really is.

Dave: These guns are generally Belgian or Germanic. They often have no identification as to maker's name. And often they represent the gunsmith's "final examination" for entry into that society's gunmaker's guild. A proof of craftsmanship if you will... or a "union card."
As such, they offer very good workmanship for the money. Since there is no "name" they command much lower prices compared to a comparable "name gun."
On the downside, some design aspects of these guns can be a bit "adventurous". But that is generally the exception rather than the rule.

The term is "tradegun". A "Guild Gun" does not exist.
Kind Regards,

the so called "guide guns" i have looked at are at best an entry grade gun of german, french or belgium origin as soon as the seller adds "guide gun" the price is in the parker price range rather than in the stevens price range where it belongs. i guess "guide gun" is suppost to add a mestique sound to it.

Guild gun is a term we gun dealers use when we have no idea what the hell it is. (We learned it in gun dealers school)

Isn't mestique an island in the Caribbean? Franc, how do you grill with an island?

Pod: Please accept my sincere apology. I was crass in my comment. I'm sure you are a decent, responsible fellow who was simply trying to make a point. I was certainly not a gentleman in my view. Again, you have my apology.
