i have two high grade forehand sxs 12 guage shotguns. they are both nicely engraved with french walnut stocks. is there someone out there that has the records of the forehand [hopkin allen] shotguns? it occurred to me that these are not a run of the mill shotgun and would like some petigree if possible.

pod, Carder's 1994 book covers Forehand shotguns made under Hopkins and Allen management between 1902 and 1915. The 2000 revision expanded it from 40 to 81 pages and has better graphics.
Tip Up Shotguns from Hopkins & Allen Arms Company by Charles E. Carder ISBN 0-9679886-1-6
The Forehand models are nicely rounded and carry well in the smaller gauges. Carder advises against shooting them much but I still scratch down a few quail with a 30" 16 gauge damascus Forehand double using appropriate low pressure loads. I'd like to find a 16 gauge ejector Forehand someday, but they seem to be scarce.

Dr. Ben Loving did considerable research on H&A as he was going to write a book on them. I have part of the original manuscript but I would not let it go without his permission. He used to advertise on this site under Loving Doubles. You might contact him there.

Daryl, Excuse the hijack but please see my thread about Baker shotguns above. As stated I have 4 Bakers and cannot locate any reference books such as the ones on Parker or Ithaca that cover the Baker guns. Both my L.C. Smith book and my Ithaca book mention the Bakers but don't show the various models and provide any data such as dates of manufacture by serial number. You are usually a wealth of information. Please share about Baker shotguns. thanks, Tom

To my eyes these are beautiful old American doubles, nicer than most I can remember.
Happy New Year to all!
