More than a year ago my gun club contracted a company to come in and reclaim the lead from our two trap ranges. They paid us $65,000.--

$47 plus tax.
The shot in the 'pipeline' is going to be expensive for some time, even if the price of lead stays around a buck or less.
I'm still working on 50 bags I bought at $23.
Rumor is price on new shells is going up 9-1.
Strategy is get your other components now, and wait out the lead as far as possible.

We keep hearing that factory steel loads will eventually be less expensive, but they're not there yet. Just checked a Wal-Mart in Iowa the other day, where hunters may have to shoot steel at doves starting next month. The Winchester steel target loads were $6.47. Federal Game Loads (lead) a buck cheaper; Winchester Super Speed (lead), buck and a half cheaper.

Just bought a half ton of reclaimed cleaned, polished, graphited, and steel removed for $1.10 a pound. Contrary to every thing I've read, I have experienced no differance in performance than with virgin lead. I use this primarily for sporting practice and have been shooting targets up to 70 yards. I'm totally satisfied.

Ken,
You can't tell the difference between a mix of #9, #8.5, #8 & # 7.5's and a load of #7.5 @ 70yds?
Is the shot sorted by size and is it all round?

Last time I checked my supplier had a few tons at 37/bag, ton lots, you pick up in TX. With China cutting production the only way I see prices going down is re electing O Bama bill

Actually, I think the charts someone had put up yesterday, showing the price dropping to about a buck a pound, can be read to indicate that there is actually something of a glut out there (probably more the result of decreased use) and stocks are being dumped in warehouses to keep prices artificially high. Take a good look at the amount in warehouses and how it's gone up, radically. That's a huge price drop waiting to happen.
