Nearly forgot, try Dixie Gun Works, lots of inventory for the home gun builder (mainly classic ML builders) and excellent prices. Also their catalogue has a huge reference section and is worth the $5 they ask for it (or whatever they now charge).

I have been buying buttplates for years in case I need them. I am so glad I have done that, even though I haven't used many. I recently sent a very large Parker skeleton plate to someone who is stocking a pigeon gun for me. I would hate to think of how hard I would have to work to find that buttplate on short notice.

Stan McFarland makes the best steel buttplate out there. Available from Brownells, the "English" version has a wider lower end and is more suited to shotgun usage, but I also use for rifles.
The trick is finding someone to checker them...
