Ted, Purdey's sued all the boys from Purdey(Beesley, Atkin and Evans), but Frederick.
They even paid-up royalties to the old bugger on his self-opener of 1880 for some years.

Derrick,
The case color on that Boss does not look right. If ol "Master gunsmith Ed Landers" were selling it I would be sure what caused it. Too, an awful lot of case for a gun from 1896. Jake

Here's a pic of mine, I am also trying to figure out how to post a pic

I highly recommend owning one. Mine's not for sale though.

Whooppee! It worked. Here is a closer up picture of the bottom . It is a 1908 vintage which proports to have original case color. It also has an interesting inscription on the oval regarding the Yale class of 1914.

Wallis,
How long are the barrels on your gun? It is a 12, I assume?
Best,

They look to be 28 or 30 inches to me. They appear to fit the case. Not like some cOwboy jobs we see on here.
Nice Tennessee Purdy.

There's not a Purdey made that I'd take over some of the beautifully engraved and checkered American hardware store guns that I've seen in The Double Gun Journal.

I'm not trying to be provocative. We've been over this many times: what makes a gun particularly good or desirable.

I'll go further: I hunt all the time with old and used American guns more preferable to me than any I'd find elsewhere. Average price less than $1,000.

Hunting with someone using a Purdey would sure add spice, however, to the occasion. As would Lowell with his Beesley.

I love both American and English guns, but the Americans are starting to get the nod - especially the hard working waterfowlers that have been kept-up.
Some nice antique working decoys, calls and a vintage ducker or two - a good time in the blind, and when its too cold, but to stay in the house.
