I think it was designed in Praha in 1920 and then Boniface Petrik moved to France to have Damon manufacture it. It is possible that the design could have been completed in France. I'm curious if any exists without French proofmarks.

U.S. of A. Patent 1434627 to Boniface Petrik/Societe Petrik & Cie.

Did Remington have an arrangement with Petrik for the use of his patent when they brought out the model 32? It looks lie the patent would have still been in effect.

Thanks again, Raimey. That's the time frame I assumed. Haven't seen all that many Petriks (have only owned 2 myself) but all had French proofs.

Interesting that Daryl mentioned the Savage/Adolph connection. I once "did not buy" a wonderful Superbritte with Savage markings. What's the story about that gun?

A couple words about Fred Adolph.

Ithaca Engraving Company did the plates for his catalog , I believe that was around 1914.
Fred Adolphs wife, daughter and granddaughter returned to the US around 1926 and they All lived together in an apartment in New York City.
Fred Adolph died in Los Angeles in 1957 a few blocks from where his daughter lived.
His daughter died in 1989.
His granddaughter whose father was Italian died in 1981 according to my notes. I have not been able to confirm that with public records.

Harry J Van Valkenburg was President of the Ithaca Engraving Company. He was born in Ontario, Canada May 24, 1880.

He purchased the Stanley Engraving Company and renamed it.

He had a deep interest in the new technology of photo engraving. The Ithaca Engraving Company was well known for their printing.
