I have one of those rubber stick on pads on the comb of my s/s and a friend of mine told me I need to cover it with leather which to me would look cool if I can find some nice thin leather. What kind of glue do I use.Any idea where to find the leather?

There is a product my late dad used that was called Barge cement. He was a custom saddlemaker in California and he used it extensively. It is like contact cement and came in a yellow and red can or tube. You paint it on both pieces, let it set for about 10 minutes, and put them together. I saw it on Amazon.com and it is Toluene Free.

If you have to do it don't use glue get some two faced tape instead, you can easily peel it off if you need to readjust and more importantly it won't ruin the finish

Colin is correct. If all you want to do is to glue some leather onto a pad that is already stuck to your stock, Barge cement is the way to go. Most any shoe repair will have it. Tandy is a good place for leather (on line)... or visit a resale shop and buy an old leather purse made of thin-split leather. This is often the best course. If you can get past the checkout with a straight face.

I found a goat skin on e-bay for $20, turned out to be ideal, soft suppel works nice. I used tightbond 2 for glue. Put the skin over sorbathane. Looks and feels good.

Barge Cement is the way to go if what you want is to stick leather to the rubber pad. BUT, there are now two varieties of Barge Cement. Barge Cement is actually a brand name for a high quality contact adhesive, and there are others out there, but Barge seems to be the best. The original formula still comes in the yellow/red packaging, but can be hard to find. The new "environmentally friendly" version comes in a blue/black packaging and does not work as well (what a shock!). I don't think the original formula is still available in tubes, but I recently got some in a quart can. All the internet sources that I checked that showed the yellow/red tubes on their sites were actually selling the blue/black tubes, so be sure you know what you are getting. In my part of CA, the manufacturer has apparently instructed distributors to sell the old product only to professional shoe repair and saddlery shops. I finally found mine at a movie studio equipment house, because it's used a lot by set builders.
