I know a bunch here have been there and I'm trying to find a good reliable outfitter and I need some information and advice. I can't decide on either Argentina or Uruguay or where ever there is good bird hunting but I'm planning on taking my 16 gauge double but will borrow a gun from the outfitter also to give it a rest.
Any help??

You can't go wrong in either Argentina or Uruguay. There are many good outfitters. Start with TREK Safaris--they do a great job and offer many options in both countries. Plus--their prices generally include airfare from Miami, hunting licenses($65 a day) and 2 gun permits. I'm taking my 5th trip this summer--my second to Uruguay. All trips have been for multiple species--doves--ducks--perdiz and pigeons. It's too far to go to shoot doves for 3 days. Stay longer and give the other birds a try. We have also had very good Golden Dorado fishing.
i took a 16 ga. to Uruguay and with advance notice shells were not a problem. However--not all places have or offer 16ga. 12/20/28 are the norm. Rental guns are now $65-75 a day. I have been twice, with Luis Sier Safaris. It has been without a hitch both times. We went to Argentina both times, flying out of Miami. He can book your flight either to Buenos Aires.... then over to Cordoba, or to Santiago, Chile.... then to Cordoba. Luis' attention to permits, customs, etc. could not be improved upon. He has a lady that meets you at the airport in Cordoba, sees you through all the red tape, never leaving your side (it's not bad at all as long as your ser. nos. match up on your guns and on your permit). Taking guns is a non-issue, took mine both times.

Lodging, food and overall service is first rate. One key thing with Luis, that I know some other outfitters fall short on, is the length of time you ride from the lodge to the field. Some shoots are within five minutes of the lodge (and his 1600 acre dove roost). None are over 15 minutes away. This allows you to have a fine breakfast before the morning shoot, which is three full hours of shooting, then return to the lodge to eat lunch, nap a bit, then another three hours of shooting in the afternoon. Some outfitters get you up very early, ride you up to 2-2 1/2 hrs. each way, and feed you lunch in the field. I don't go down there to ride, I go to shoot doves. And, I promise you with Luis that is what you will do. Don't mention, even casually, that you would like to have something that you haven't seen. He will turn school out to get it for you. One evening I casually mentioned that a Cuban sure would make the evening perfect. It looked like a Japanese fire drill around there until he located some, handed them to me and said, "No charge, it took to long to find them".

I'd take the money and buy me a real nice SxS a couple of cases of ammo and head to the sporting clays range.

I want to go so bad I can taste it but somehow I knew that damn 16 gauge would give me problems.

A friend and I have totaled 16 trips and both find Luis Seir to be head and shoulders the best.

Is that all of the expenses I would have other than the round trip flight from the states and the additional ammo and rental gun?

Ammo's $11.00 to $14.00 per box, tips for bird boys and Lodge attendents, liquor, and they'll surely try to sell you some locally made stuff...Geo

Figure in a little money for tips for the staff and bird boys, and figure on a lot more shells than the 1000 included with the package. Luis strongly discourages large tips, but the help is so gracious that I can't help but do much more than he suggests. I don't shoot all I can, but don't hold back a whole lot. I usually burn around 1200-1500 a day.

Okay I�ll just flat out ask you guys, nothing specific but what was the total cost for some of these trips? A range would be good from low to high, but I�m starting to do the math and it�s starting to get a little pricey.

A) Under $5,000
B) Over $5,000 but under $10,000
C) Greater than $10,000 but not quite $15,000

Am I in the ball park here or am I still low.
