Hello Bill,

It looks very nice. Has clean lines. Great looks.

I'd go for it if I could.

Lots of interest. I see an auction coming.

P.S.: Montana, it does not have ejectors! smile jc

in one of the Boothroyd books he has a picture of a boxlock Grant with coil springs, looks very similar. It may have been a sidelever, I'll have to check

What a beautiful piece of wood, is there no way to salvage that buttstock? If not, I'd like to buy it from whoever ends up with the gun and has it restocked, make some nice pistol grips...

This is a trigger plate action per the Horatio Phillips patent (I believe granted in 1879). I have a .500 BPE double rifle built this way. The hammers are cocked by the sidelever. Boothroyd wrote a paper about this indeed. I have seen a few of those around.
The barrels are likely blacked over damascus.
Best regards,
WC

Are they sleeved barrels? Looks like you can see a line 3" or so from the breech.

Wild Cattle is correct about the action.

I note what appears to be a peg repair to the headstock, where the fillets of wood are thin, like they are in a Dickson round action. Stock is nicely figured. Action nicely engraved. Pins have seen some action with enlarges slots and not lining up correctly. I believe Bonhams had one in their last sale.

The photos are not well lit burt the sleeving line does appear to be visible in one. Also, is there a crack in the hand behind the top strap, heading left? It may just be a gouge in the chequer, again, pics not good enough. You will get better results outside in natural light.
