This is the kind of fight we have going on currently in Arizona and a battle I expect to spread to other States. The anti's have declared an all out war on hunting and fishing rights.

The opposition has been successful getting their misinformation widely circulated, and they now have a huge war chest. The Humane Society of the US has contributed $250,000 to try to defeat Prop 109. This is the organization whose leader stated “We are going to use the ballot box and the democratic process to stop all hunting in the United States… We will take it species by species until all hunting is stopped in California. Then we will take it state by state.”

For those who continue to believe there is no immediate threat to hunting and fishing in Arizona, think about the above statement. While it may be true there are no specific actions at present, the goal of groups like HSUS is clear, and they have the money to back it up. The passage of Prop 109 is critical to protect hunting and fishing from radical animal rights groups. Money talks. The same thing happened here in England when the 'Animal Rights' lot gave the Labour party under Tony Blair a 'donation' (bung) of £1,500,000 and the result was a ban on hunting wild mammals with dogs. The current government are hoping to get it repealed when Parliamentary time allows. Fingers crossed on that one. Lagopus.....

Our Tennessee balot come Nov 2 will have a similar proposal on it. It is a proposal to ammend the TN state constitution ro guarantee the right to hunt & fish in the state. It is endorsed by the NRA & should stand a good chance of passing here in TN I would thank.

Prop 109 is more than a constitutional guarantee of the right to hunt and fish (which is a very good thing)

It also takes away Game and Fish's authority to make hunting regulations, and places that authority in the hands of the state legislature (not a good idea)

Do you think that our glorious legislature has done such a bang up job and they have the spare time to put into rationally analyzing hard science and translating it into game and fish rules or will they just vote whichever way the political wind is blowing?

At best our glorious legislature is barely competent on anything, and I have more faith in a dedicated department with a history of protecting and managing wildlife.

A better-written ballot initiative, one that focuses solely on protecting hunting and fishing would get my vote, but not this one.

Since the fish and wildlife commission commissioners are appointed by the governor it is already politicised. We were fortunate this power wasn't extensively abused when Napolitano, now one of Obamas flunkies, was in office. The legislature in this State tends to much more represent the will of the majority of the citizens.
This is not a perfect solution but leaves less to the whims then what we have today.
