The only thing dumber than putting pad on a 28 is putting one on a .410.

That said, it hardly kills the gun in terms of being collectible.
There are plenty of people who are smart enough to see through the myths of Parker collecting.

I agree with what has been said above. The stock being cut is the big deal here. Really hurts it for collectors. This is a good shooter gun or a candidate for a total restoration with a new stock. Either way the price has been cut dramatically. I would agree with $7000 and that would be tops. But then again, I see guys asking $16000 for them in better condition.

You'd be really un-wise to restock that gun just because someone put a pad on it.

The best thing you could do is buy the gun, leave it completely untouched, shoot it once it a while when the urge arose, keep it clean and oiled, and in 30 years you can sell it into a very receptive COLLECTOR'S market.

Billgrill, Parker VH grade #108,346 is a 26" 28 gauge with 1/2 pistol grip stock, ordered on September 4, 1902 by William Wagner, a gun dealer on Pennsylvania Avenue S.E. Washington, DC. At the time, Wagner was ordering more 28 gauge Parkers than any other dealer so it is somewhat likely that the gun in question, consecutive in serial number to the gun I mentioned, may have also been ordered by Wagner. A PGCA letter would confirm its origin. Bill Murphy

I agree with Gregsy. Buy it, hang onto it. Too many "expert" Parker guys will try and knock the gun so they can buy it for less.

It is a very nice VH. If you do anything at all spend a few hundred and have the correct DHBP fitted to it. Beyond that - don't do anything else. I have one just like it but with ejectors and a bit cleaner and it is a sweet little gun. Keep it nice and you'll NEVER BE SORRY.

ScottG, is the behavior you allude to in your post specific to "expert" Parker guys or do other "guys" exhibit this behavior also?
Can't be too careful out there.
