I have a German 16ga Gottfried Funk & Sohn double with very detailed engravings in silver and in the cheek piece on the butt. Silver barrel bands, and very little, (if any at all)pitting in the barrels. The gun is not perfect as it is very old, but it is still in extremely good condition and truthfully a work of art. I do not know how to post any pictures on here, but will gladly send some via email if asked. The gun has proof marks that are early 1900's, but Gottfried's shop was established in the mid and late 1800's and later sold to Gebhardt(?) Merkel.

I have gathered quite abit of information, but the people that really know German guns tell me this particular maker did not make alot of guns, making them rare (i hope). I also have it listed for sale and would entertain offers, questions, and would love any information you may have on the gun reguardless of interest for purchase.

Thanks!

Also, if someone can tell me how to post pictures, I will add a few on here, but would rather send most via email.

The above mentioned gun has a bone handle piece that some have told me is original, some disagree. I am under the impression it was probably horn, but am very new to the antique gun world. Any ideas on the probability that gunmakers used to use bone in the late 1800's?

THanks for the info

Thanks for the help OWD! If anyone else has any info on the gun, and or makers from the period any info would be greatly appreciated. I do know Gottfried Funk started making guns in Suhl around 1840, later his son joined the company, and that sometime Pre WWI Gebhardt Merkel owned/purchased the company. I have also been told that the gun was fitted with the smooth bores it has now probably late 1890ish. FF (probably Fredrick Funk) is ingraved on the bottom of the bores.
