Postscript.
Dude is keeping his Baker.
Whew! That likely just saved me a bunch of money.
Daryl, I won't argue a 16 Batavia Brush is rare-but, that likely doesn't justify putting a ton of money in it.
Best, Ted

Well, depends how badly you feel you want a Baker Bush gun in your collection. So, did you luck out or lose out?

Ted, yes, white flies are rare, but not too valuable.
By the way, Ken Shanks, who wrote the groundbreaking Baker article in June 1968 American Rifleman, had a 16 ga. Batavia Brush. He sold his entire group of Baker guns, about 50 pieces, but would never sell his 16 ga Brush.

Ted -- Oh well. I was going to say that epoxy can work miracles with a stock, but it sounds like this one was pretty bad. Hope you are enjoying our MN weather and get through the remaining four months of it.

From what I can see, the guy just likes the gun hanging in his living room, and wants to keep it. He knows I'm interested. I'll do his carb for nothing, anyway, and, hopefully, if he gets sick of looking at, it he calls me someday. As I thought about it a little, the configuration of my reworked Tobin is pretty similar to a Batavia Brush. It wears a straight stock, and is choked loose IC and loose MOD. Stan Baker worked on the bores, and the gun works pretty well with either plastic shot cups or felt wads, Eley 2 1/2" Grand Pix being the typical load I use. I don't actually need another gun that needs/uses low pressure ammuntion, in fact, a good, stout, modern 12 along the lines of a double trigger 471 Beretta with choke tubes would be a good addition. Money is tight around here anyway, the wife wants to go home to visit this summer. Better to wait. We will see what happens.
Best, Ted
