That reminds me of something my young Ferlach-trained gunsmith told me recently. He says that Ferlach stockers routinely reinforce fancy stocks using a "drawbolt" made of strong wood.

BTW, for any inquiring minds, i have no financial connection to this blank or the referral. I thought the wood was noteworthy, and asked about it's possibilities where i knew I could get qualified opinions. JIC someone would be wanting to know that.
