$900 for a W&S 700 . . . George, you didn't buy that gun. You stole it! Nice find.

Yea, just think, he could have had a non-matching numbers BSS for $1100.
And to think, someone warned me about Karma... Best, Ted

Ted, go find a nice W&S 700 for $900, and I'd suggest you ought to buy it too. Depending on gauge and condition, there are BSS out there, numbers matching just fine, for less. But one can spend a long time looking for a bargain like a $900 Scott 700 in nice shape, or a $500 BSS in equal condition.

George
W&S #130381 went to VL&A in 1961 but we do not seem to have the Chicago record books for 1961 or 1962. In 1963 the gun was not in the VL&A records so it apparently sold sometime in 61 or 62 but I can't determine to whom it was sold. We do have the 1960 VL&A book but the transfer was too late for that record book.
Rob
W&S #137884 was not in the records of A&F. I checked all the way up through 1969 so it must have been imported and sold by a different retailer. BTW, numbers 137770, 772 and 774 are in the A&F records and all were 28 gauge guns.

Again, thanks Bob; you've obviously committed a fair amount of time to this search today. Nothing like asking your questions in the right place!...Geo

Larry, The 700 was a good deal, no doubt, but, it misses the point-the BSS, at $1100, with tampered, non-matching parts was a REALLY, REALLY bad deal. Best, Ted

Ted, given today's market, $1100 for a BSS--depending on gauge and condition--isn't a bad deal. (In fact, based on the market, that'd be a steal for a decent 20ga Sporter.) But one can certainly find examples of bad deals on both BSS and 700's.

Come on, Larry, admit it-$1100, for a tampered with, 12 gauge, non-matching numbers BSS was a STINKING deal, no if's, and's, or but's.
BTW, Jaqua's has a Beretta 409, with a straight grip, 28" barrels and double triggers listed for $995. They will take less. At least, double the gun, on any criteria you could pick (save weight) any 12 gauge BSS could ever be. Best, Ted

Not sure what Larry and Ted have going on there, but thought I'd mention that I have the Webley and Scott 700 in hand now and I'm pretty happy with it even if I did pay more than retail for a USED gun. I didn't mention it is a 16ga...Geo
