Can anyone confirm that Joseph was indeed the son of Heinrich August Lindner? I've read it and seem to have found his fate here(7th down from top):

Being correct would be nice, but the following really reveals the fate of many of the craftsmen. I thought about putting it under the current Daly colour thread but thought I had hijacked it enough.

So the question is usually raised as to what happened to the artistians/craftsmen of Suhl and surrounding areas. Well this link, http://www.denkmalprojekt.org/dkm_deutschland/zella-mehlis_lerchenberg_wk1_thuer.htm , is a site that is a pretty vivid reminder of the costs of war. In researching many of the makers I recognize many, many of the names. And the posting just happens to coincide near the time of Memorial Day.

Raimey:
I answered the question about HAL's son in the Winter 2005 issue of the DGJ.
His only child was his son, Ernst.
It seems that he was killed at the beginning of WW1.
He was also a gun maker, trained by his father.

His death was the reason that HAL retired and closed his business.

Ernst was survived my his wife and parents. The wife lived with the Lindners until their deaths and the property was sold, at her death, as there were no more heirs/

So, H.A. would have closed his business circa June/July 1915.

For anyone interested in the era of the Lindner gunmaking folk, Georg Lindner, grandfather of Ernst Lindner, doesn't appear in the 1839 Suhl listing of gunmakers but does appear as a rifle or weapons maker in the 1846 list of Suhl makers. As of yet I don't under which maker he apprenticed, but I am on the search.

In 1846 Georg Lindner was listed as a "Gewehrfabrik"; therefore, he had to have apprenticed/worked for, or was working for, a "Gewehrfabrik" owner and at the time they were:
Gustav Gottlieb Haenel
Johann Paul Sauer
Valentin Christop Schilling
Ferdinand Spangenberg
Heinrich Sturm .
There may have been another or 2 I have missed but for now I would venture a guess that Georg Lindner apprenticed at either Sauer or Schilling.
