Ruger made a big mistake or more graphically step in a big puddle of goo designing and tooling for a project that they obviously did not do their homework over. That Gold Label was a disaster and I'm glad that the company was able to survive it through sales of its other products.
A brand new 6 1/3 lbs side by side, how about a 6 1/3 lbs 12 gauge over/under, with a proven design and the tooling already in place, who's the brains in that outfit??

I have a Gold Label and love it, but agree with treblig and others that Ruger should have followed its previously successful strategy (see Blackhawk and its kin and all the 77s) and improved/diversified the proven Red Label line before launching into an SxS venture that has failed so many times for others. I for one love their RL 28s and have always wondered why no alloy framed 20 for the grouse and chukar crowd...

On the other hand, if Ruger hadn't been a risk taker, we wouldn't have the #1, would we? Everybody but the market said it couldn't be done.
