I have this German drilling with a relined rifle barrel without a mark as to what caliber the reline is. I cast the chamber with cerrosafe and these are the measurements:
Bullet: .219/.225
Case:
neck: .249
shoulder: .297
base: .319
rim: .381
lenght: 1.647
The closest I can find in the "Cartridges of the World" is a .22 caliber round called R2 Lovell or 22-3000.
Any ideas if I am on the right track?

Seems like you have it right - there's no other German cartridge that comes close and the Lovell, based on the .25-20 Single Shot, fits those dimensions perfectly.

Steve,

Thank you. What kind of round is this Lovell? Do you think the reline was done in Germany/Europe?
The drilling has no name to it, but on one of the barrel lumps there is a capercaille engraved. Do you know who the manufacturer could be?

During the 30s, when Neidner, Gebby and Howe and others were experimenting with necked down .250s and 7 X 57s, the Lovell was considered a pretty good wildcat. The .218 Bee was also necked down from the 25/20 Repeater case. I'd be real proud to use a Lovell cartridge.

If indeed you do have a .22-3000 and my faulty memory serves, you can made cases out of .25-35 Win.---not exactly a cartidge you'll find at Wal Mart, but some of the obsolete cartridge mfg. likely offer them. Jump over to the single shot site, those boys will know for sure. I think it was a relatively common wildcat before WWII. I have one round, loaded with a cast bullet, in my meager cartidge collection. It was given to me by a gunsmith back in the late '50's. Good luck with a cool cartridge!

A lot of shooters like the Lovell and wish someone would do a run of brass.

This thread is about a Lovell chambered Krag sporter and has some pics of a Lyman Ideal loading kit I have for the Lovell.
