If you do a google patent search for patent 289132 you will see it is assigned to Joseph Petmecky on November 27, 1883. I have the Budd patent number in my notes somewhere, just havent found it yet and somehow the 2 tie together. Last Dollar, Look at patent numbers 399452 and 450323, they are ones assigned to Tomlinson and are the fore runners of the Tomlinson cleaner that you have. Something keeps telling me I'm missing one more number assigned to Tomlinson but will keep checking my notes. Those Tomlinson cleaners were made by BGI (Bridgeport Gun Implement Co), Union Hardware Co. and Outers. The Outers cleaner had metal screen holders whereas BGI and Union Hardware had wooden ones.

Last Dollar, the Tomlinson tools are quite common and must have been made a long time. My experience with them is limited, but they came with replacable brass screens that did the work of scraping the crud off of the bore. They work better in an almost clean bore as the screens can fill up.

Just a suggestion to all but maybe we've been overlooking an interesting area I'll label "Period Accessories" here. Does anyone else have some unique items that care to post for the rest of us? Jim

Looks like the Budd-Petmecky Cleaner was offered in six sizes from 8- down to 20-gauge. This from a circa 1903 Shreve & Barber Co., San Francisco catalogue.

Researcher, 6 gauges offered for the Budd-Petmecky bore cleaner are interesting. After thinking about it, the same interior could be used for most of them. I have not measured the interior diameter, though. Will you display at the Nimrod Classic in Polson ?

Was Shreve and Barber related to the Shreve jewelry company - still in business in San Francisco? I have a bowie knife with "Shreve, San Francisco" on the blade - not as fancy as what I would expect from the jeweler, so more likely from this company.
Daryl, you may remember several of the Budd tools (no boxes, only one with the brass insertion case) at the Vegas show. About half way from your table to Kearcher's. Selling for $50 - 75 as I recall.

Now that would be a find, a Budd cleaner in 8 gauge. I'd imagine the brush is the same in all of them though, so only the shell part would be different.
