What can you gents tell me about double guns made or finished by Joseph Singer. I viewed a 16/12 2 barrel set with this makers name and would like to learn more about these guns.

thank you

Pat, I think I saw the gun you are looking at. Seemed to me to be a German import with Singer's name on it. I do not know how much of the gun was built stateside. I believe Singer was responsible for bringing [was it August] Pachmyr [sp?] to the US. From the accounts of friends, Singer had a considerable history in gunmaking and gunsmithing. Daryl

Great folks there, Very helpful.

I see that there is another Singer up for sale, but not good. Here's a link to that post, it's a fun one to read, and most interesting:

Joseph Singer was a Los Angeles gunsmith best known for his triggers in schuetzen rifles. He apprenticed at Lefever Arms Co. I understand, as Daryl said, that he brought Gus Pachmayer to the U.S. and housed him until he was financially established.

Singer also "put up" Harry Pope after the earthquake destroyed his shop until others helped Pope set up again on the East Coast (Jersey City).

I looked at the double you are talking about at Las Vegas - it certainly looked like a great gun. I have a 12 marked Singer; my guess is he was just the retailer. The seller on the gun you are interested in knows a great deal about Singer - you should ask about that as well as details on the gun.

Too bad the one on Gunbroker is in such sad condition. It appeart to have been a very nice gun at one time.
