Daryl, Go to http://www.bandpusa.com product information then speed and pressure charts. They have a list of charges and pressures in both bar and psi that one can orient oneself from.

850 Bar converts to 12,328psi. I believe a service load should not exceed 75% of the proof load or about 9,246psi.

Please see http://www.16ga.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3428"BOTTOM LINE: ANY 850 BAR (proof) = 650 BAR service or 3 TON service gun should be fine at pressures under 8500 psi, or 3 1/4 tons less than 9,500 psi."

2-piper, thanks. I do see the B and P chart, and I think that's great. I was just having trouble remembering the service load.

If I remember correctly, the new rules of proof ('89) show a testing pressure measured in bar that should be 60% higher than the usable pressure. This is from the recent article published in SS, the number before last.

Straight from the British proof house, they're still using crusher bars--which means you can't convert x 14.5. They say that max service pressure for an 850 bar gun is about 10,700 psi, or around 1,000 psi lower than the SAAMI max--which reinforces the need to avoid standard American factory ammo. But you can do a whole lot with reloads. I stay way on the safe side with my target stuff, no more than 7,000 psi and often a whole lot less. Even the 1 1/8 oz field load I use on occasion is only 7300 psi.
