Anyone got a recommended 1oz 16 gauge load. I tried a load with Herco powder because of the lower pressures, but it is way dirty and had some that were bloopers. Interested if the loads with Unique or Green dot are any better before I try em. JW

Couldn't recommend enough the forum members over at 16ga.com. They're real friendly and passionate about the gauge. They have an Ammunition and Reloading forum, and what may be particularly of interest a 16 ga Low Pressure Reloading Group forum too.
hope that helps

I belong there as well. The reloading group is well worth it. My favorite published load is 19.0 gr. Unique, W209 primer, SG-16 wad, one ounce of hard 5s or 6s in a 2.5" case. That generates 1200 fps @ 9000 psi. I shot IC/Full with the 6/5 combo last October in Montana and it kills roosters dead in the air. sv

I think that is one of the best balanced combinations of loads and chokes for Phez I have seen in print Mr Voss.
Easy to do in low pressure as well, or various other shell lengths and gauges from 28 to 12.
YMMV, Mark

I would try to find a load that uses "Clays" or "International Clays", absolutely the cleanest burning powder I have found in my 38 years of reloading all types of ammo.

I order the short hulls from Grafs (when they have them) so I don't have to mess with anything. I can load one ounce down to three quarters without any filler. sv

I think that is one of the best balanced combinations of loads and chokes for Phez I have seen in print Mr Voss. Thank you. I used my Pieper Bayard Hammergun for the first time on roosters. I had shot quite a few Prairie Chickens with it, but roosters are faster and hardier. I was very impressed with this combo, especially the Full barrel with fives. It patterns an honest 82% at 40 yards (avg. of 5 shots) and was deadly to 50 yards as long as I had a little angle to shoot with. I don't shoot straight outgoers much past 35 yards with any choke/load combo. sv

If you want I can send you a picture of a device that I made to cut 16ga. hulls down to 2 1/2 on my table saw ten at a time.
