Hey, Chuck, don' tell me you are using beaters in our kind of quail cover? Dang, life IS cheap out here in the West! Do you pay workman's comp per snakebite?

AmarilloMike, I find it too risky to have more than one guage along on a hunt; Murphy's Law has come into play more than once (16s just don't GO into a 20....). Then you feel like you should have CAUGHT that shortbus....

Chuck,
It seems to me that you didn't miss much. It is definitely better to do write it down now then a day or so before, because you always leave something out.
As for using the slime, I would use it in a real emergency, not just having a flat. I have been told that the tire is ruined once filled with it as they can't patch it.

Numbering things that you lent out is good, also a picture of the person who is wearing or using such things as it is easier to show them the picture with your items. (joke)

David, I've used the slime in my motorcycle on a trip to the Smokies, saved the trip, and the tire, drove 90 on the way back, and finished wearing the tire out with it in there. From what I've been able to determine, you shouldn't ever need to patch a tire that has the correct amount of slime in it, and if slime doesn't fill the hole, a patch wouldn't work either, and you will need to replace the tire. They, the guys that use it all the time, say Slime will seal a bigger hole than a patch will fix every time.

Some step from their back-porch to hunt, I drive an hour and can be back for lunch.
I put the rifle in the Jimmy take along some coffee and thats about it.
For ducks, I get the Lab(I have three) that wants to go(they're getting older, and like to sleep-in)...and just go.
No big deal!

Hey Chuck,
I like your planning, not my style but I admire it. I always do carry a jump box with a compressor this alows me to jump my own vehicle without hoping for someone to come by, it also allows me to fill a flat tire and plug it (always carry a plug kit). Like to carry cut stop powder for the dog and duck tape. For the hunting I like extra clothes an extra gun and ammo. Some power bars and water.
Thats about it.

All of the above plus flares, big plastic tarp, a real shovel, bow saw, lighter or magnesium fire starter, FRS/GMRS radios, extra synthetic cable for the winch, a wide base for the Hi-Lift, hearing protection, work gloves, misc. mechanic's tools, hatchet, three days water and some food. The truck has a dual battery system with Optimas, and there is always a decent compressor on board to augment the canned inflators and the tire plug kit. Also a portable CB radio when I remember to pack it. Spare boots are a must.

And maps, lots of maps.

Chuck, have you ever tried field welding from the battery with the rod clamped in your jumper cables?

At some point in my life the anticipation became as exciting as the actual hunt. Getting ready, fiddling with this or the other, getting this fixed and that ordered, what gun, what to reload, all the while thinking about the hunt to come, about how much better my dogs should do this season, about out-shooting Joe Wood (not hard) etc...

Best,

Mike
