AS you can see I am new to this BBS. I have been lurking a little lately and decided to post up.
I have been looking for a shooter blackpowder shotgun for some time and found what I though was a good buy. I recently picked up a Parker lifter release, hammer gun at a gun show that seemed to be in better condition than most. The price was drastically discounted and it was listed as a 12 gauge. I have done some reading in the past and checked for tightness of the barrel/reciever with the forearm removed and it seemed quite good. Took the barrels off and inspected the serial numbers and all seemed to match. The barrels seems to have a nice ring to them so I figured the soldered joint would be good. One problem is that someone had blued the twist barrels. I assumed it was a hack cold blue job to make them more presentable for sale. I took it to a local gunsmith that does work on the double guns. His opinion was that the barrels and action had been hot dipped and that with the inside barrel pitting and the hot blueing it should never be shot. I would like to get a second opinion and would like to know where to go. I was recommended to a gunsmith in the Toledo OH area by a friend and may take it down there. Another question is: Should I go ahead and spend the money on barrel browning and case coloring of the reciever and put it on the mantle or just turn it over at a gun show telling the buying it should not be shot. Oh, after closer inspection at home it is chambered for 10gauge and it is probably a low grade gun. Some engraving on Bbls, none on reciever, shallow checkering on walnut. The Parker collector page said that it was manufactured in 1877. The gunsmith said the barrels may not have been original and may be of a later period. He said the numbers on the barrels did not match the others but I did not notice this on my inspection. Ser# 106XX
The keepers are of two different sized and one firing pin is missing so I went ahead and had the gunsmith take care of these issues to make it at least look more presentable.

Barrels match receiver, but gunsmith says they don't. I would get the gun away from that gunsmith. He will not be your first choice to evaluate anything about the gun. A second, non matching, set of numbers may be found on the barrel flats, but that would be the "order number" on early guns, not the serial number, which would be found on the left side of the barrel lug. I would assume the barrels are not damaged by heat as long as they ring and don't show any rib separation. Some pictures posted may give us some clues about the general condition and value of this gun. Don't hang it up or sell it yet.

If the barrels ring , no deep pitting , shoot it . There are many post here on redoing the barrels yourself . At worse , you can cold brown em . If you keep it and shoot it , ask about reloads , you'll get lots of replies . And yes , find another " gunsmith " . If youwant to sell it , let me know . Paul
