Hi Gang; This gun has been at a major gunshop for the 18 months that I know. The gun is in good shape with no major dings or scratches. I did not look inside the barrels yet. The gun has an overall patina of a gun that was handled and not oiled. My estimation is that it needs rebluing and the staock needs freshened up a bit with polish as it is quite dull.
The price is $1850.00 and is very firm!
I am thinking about adding this gun to my group of guns but I am nost sure about the price.
Kindly comment about the gun and price if you can.
Thanks,
Franchi

I'd much rather have a nice BL-6 than just about any other commonly available O/U 28 on the market (which is not to imply that the BL-6 is common). If this gun is 28", M/F, with decent dimensions, the price is OK. If it has a straight grip, I'd jump on it at that price. If it has 26" barrels or open chokes, I'd pass, but that's just me. Put $500 into the cosmetics and you have a better gun than can be bought for $4K new.

Sounds like a great gun. The price is what I have seen 12ga go for on GunsBroker. The 687EL would be a good comparison at $3000 plus. I haven't seen a 20ga let alone a 28ga for quite some time. I'm with Replacement, if it fits go for it. Best, Ron

Hi Gang:
i just got off of thephone with the gunshop re the Bl 6. What I learned really broke my heart.
The gun has 26" barrels choked skeet and skeet. I can now understand why the outside as such a well used patina. The stock is a p.g. style.
Knowing this additional infaormation, how does it alter your idea as its value? I could have choke tubes installed to make it a hunting gun.
Perhaps I should stick to the idea of purchasing a used/new Ruger Red Label and restocking it with killer wood. However, I always liked the feel of the Beretta Bl 4,5,6 in the sub gages. This particular BL 6 is now sounding that it is overpriced.
Any suggestions as what to do and is the price too high for a BL 6 skeet gun? I am guessing that a skeet gun would be heavier than the same gun in the field grade.
Thanks again,
Franchi

Franchi, according to the Blue Book, they do knock something off for a BL-6 skeet, but not a lot. And I'm not sure whether the skeet guns were heavier or just choked differently. I do know that BL's in 28ga are pretty rare, in any grade. If I recall correctly, Thad Scott had a BL-3 28ga a few months back, price about the same as the asking on your BL-6--and Thad's prices tend to be on the reasonable side.
A 28 choked skeet/skeet probably wouldn't be a great dove gun, but I sure wouldn't reject one for grouse and woodcock, or quail. If you have a bore and choke gauge, it'd also be interesting to see just what the constrictions are.

Don't know about value of 28 ga BL-6, but a 20 ga was offered for sale recently for over 3K. I personally know of a 26 inch, IC/M 20 ga BL-6 selling for $2,500. I also know the BL series are "can't miss" kind of guns. Don Zutz said of the BL series... "might well have been the best over-unders ever made for the popular price range."

Concider that if its a well worn skeet gun finish wise,it may well have a few hundred thousand rounds through it.You realy need to look closer if intrested and ifs its realy been there 18 months offer 1,400 and wait for a call back if the gun is sound.

Franchi, I'd pass on this BL-6, based on the new info, unless you like short barrels and open chokes. I would not put choke tubes in it. I have a Ruger Red Label and it's a great little gun. I highly endorse it, and much prefer its handling to my Beretta 686. Some Rugers come from the factory with killer wood, but you have to get lucky. I have an early 20 gauge skeet (blued frame) with fantastic wood, and I know a guy with a RRL 12 that has even better wood. Ruger has their equivalent of a custom shop that is putting out some fairly fancy guns, so you might contact them and see if you can buy a wood upgrade, either with the gun or afterwards.
