Saw a nice small frame 16ga today. Krupp Fluss-Stahl Essen barrels. German proofs. Think it has 6/31 or something like this on the barrels. Looks like prewar.

It has W. Uhlig marked on it. Never heard of this. Any ideas? I will try to get more info tomorrow, but thought I might jog a memory tonight.

Nice points - wonderful feel, smaller frame, barrel length (27 5/8 give or take a 1/16")

Not so nice - a little movement when I checked it for looseness (not much but it does move some) and there is a ding in the right barrel - looks repairable.

Now - ballpark idea on putting it back on face and ding repair???? Might be able to get it for about $400 because I noted the looseness, but was looking for advice on this since I have never had one loose before.

Thanks.

Duke

The ding, if minor shouldn't cost more than $50-60. Back on face might be a deal breaker, it depends on what needs to be done, but $400 is a good price. 6/31 is June 1931. What length are the chambers? If they're 2-3/4" the gun should be stamped 70mm. No stamp they should be 2-1/2"

I have similar small framed 16, weighs around 5-10. Nice little guns.

It all depends on the reason it's loose, perhaps all it needs is a good cleaning. But at that price, if the barrels are sound and the wood is too I'd go for it. Probably game scene engraved?

Actually, it is nicely engraved without any game scenes. I will try to photograph this if possible.

I just loved the way it came up to shoulder. I did not have a chamber gauge with me and I did not see 16-70 nor 16-65 marked on barrels.

It has sideclips and crossbolt and extractors
Thanks.

If you don't see any chamber marking then it should be 2-1/2 or 65mm.

Mine is 65mm and stamped Emil Kerner, which I found out was a retailer in Germany, much like VL&D or A&F. Uhlig may be too. Mine has agreener safety, but no clips or crossbolt and modest engraving. I needed a longer LOP so I'm adding a leather pad.

Good luck, I hope it works out.

Update on W. Uhlig,

Made a deal and picked it up. Marked "W. UHLIG" on top of right barrel and marked " HALLE A./S" on top of left. 29 1/2 barrels. Just on the lower sides of barrels is is marked "Nitro" in scipt letters.

Serial number on botton of barrels says "O.E.S 8873"

Proof dates: First number 1 23 Second set 4 31

My son misplaced the digital for several weeks. Just found it a few minutes ago. I'll replace the expensive non-rechargeable batteries and try to take a few picks.

Needs some loving but is a nice gun.

I need to have someone put this gun back on face. The top lever also opens too easily but does not appear worn - could it be the spring gone bad? Suggestions on gunsmiths would be appreciated. I'm in southern Mississippi but I can ship where needed.

Thanks. I am a kid with a toy he really wants but can't use it yet. I think I need to go shoot one of my doubles tomorrow to ease the pain....

PS Found the misplaced camera - now I cannot find the cable to download photos. As soon as I can I will post some photos.
