I have Fox NOS barrels that need the matting cut on the rib, also the same for a Model 21. I know Andy's use to be able to handle this, but no longer. Is there anyone out there able to do this? Thanks

Check with Simmons, I know they were trying to get a matting system. http://www.simmonsguns.com/

I wouldn't mind Simmons ribs or having them doing a rib for me as long as they don't stamp their name on the da-- thing! Can't they make a rib without doing this? It reminds me of a car dealer who has to put his sticker on your bumper that is there staining your car forever because you can't get it off without taking the paint off of it. I do believe that Galazans has one of the original matting machines like Andy did. So, I would also check them and see. If I had to have Simmons make a rib for me, I would do as Winchester did when Simmons made theirs and have them keep that big ugly name off of the thing.

Joe Shiozaki mentioned to me the other day that Simmons had a laser matting process now. Worth a call.

The only set of NOS barrels I had I sold to Bobby before I had to address that issue and now I don't expect I ever will. But if I were in that boat I'd consider having a 3" banner and some text engraved near the breach end. Maybe "Abner's Gun ~ Made by A.H.Fox Co."

Jimmy W., Winchester did not market all of its Simmons ribbed guns without Simmons markings. Many of the Winchester marketed Model 42s had visible Simmons markings. Personally, unless I were building a Fox intended to deceive the next purchaser about its originality, I would not use a matting machine to adorn the rib. Early Lefevers with concave unmatted ribs are quite elegant. Many rib treatments are more attractive than machine matting, and probably less expensive.

If it is just the glare bothering you and you don,t want to make it look original, why not just tape off the barrels and bead blast just the top of the rib.

You may look into a milled pattern as well. I can think of a way to create a diamond pattern and probably a number of other pattterns as well.
