I am looking for details on low pressure loads for an old English 2 1/2",12 bore. If you have any recipes please provide the details, hull, primer, powder, wad, pressure, velocity and any other pertinent detail. I am set up for fold crimps on a mec 600 but have not ruled out going to a roll crimp. Thanks in advance, Bill

When I cut my Federal Papers down, I used 24 gr 7625 x 1 oz and 20 gr. Pb with 1 oz. Worked great and LOW pressure.

Thanks, I should have mentioned that I favor a 7/8 ounce load. Shooting mostly quail over dogs.

Hagan if you go to this site you will find more than enought low pressure loads. They are listed for 2 3/4" hulls. I have taken the data given for 20 ga. 2 3/4" Remington hulls and have cut them down to 2 1/2" and reloaded using the same componants but roll crimped using a .030 overshot card. From what I have read but cannot substanciate is that roll crimping compared to crimped is less psi. The finished shell in length is the same as a crimped shell but almost a 1/4" smaller when fired. If you don't mind the extra time in roll crimping, you will have a nice low pressure shell. http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/R...=3&gauge=12I don't know if you know this but Remington STS, Premier, Nitro, Gun Club, Game Loads are all the same internally, the only difference externally is that the STS, Premier, Nitro has a brass head, the others have steel. These hulls are compression formed like the good old Win. AA's not like the two piece hull of the new AAHS

Hagen, if you use low pressure loads (known low pressure, not guessing), you can also use 2 3/4" hulls. Do you want to use 2 1/2" hulls for some reason? They are "bothersome" if you shoot much. Use the 2 3/4" loads that reloading manuals list as sub 7500 psi and you will be fine if the gun is up to shooting at all. Good choice on the 7/8 oz load as it does a lot to reduce recoil.

I have used 7625 and PB, but for over a year I have been using Solo 1000 at 17.5 gr, 7/8's oz and the 1100 pink wad. If you want it to be 2 1/2", cut the hull to that overall length, and prior to the first crimp stage put ina 16 ga overshot card. You will get a folded crimp, with an open center. You can read about the process and pressure velocity testing in Shooting Sportsman Vol XV Iss V

I would agree that the shooting of 2 3/4 of known(Published, I guess?)Low Pressure in your 2 1/2"er would be fine , as Mr Bell mentions. There are 1oz recipes for 4-5000psi. For your 7/8ths I'd think you could find some grand, very low PSI data..good luck. Go to the Powder companys web sites & browse their 7/8th loads,,,they all have data...IMR/hodgdon etc Franc

I shoot 15.8grs of Nitro 100 , CB-4100 wad and 7/8oz of shot at around 6800psi in a Remington hull. Paul

I use Paul's load and components in Remington 2 3/4 hull; maybe a grain lighter for 7/8 oz. However, the 2007 AA manual has omitted the "cowboy" data so I'm not quite sure what's going on with N-100.

My favorite load is Fed GM 2-3/4 paper hull, W209 primer, windjammer wad (CB4118), 18 grains of Clays. This load is published on the Hodgdon website at 1180 fps and 5800 psi.
