If possible, please compare this model to Uggie models being built today. I have come across an almost mint 20 gauge example and wish to know more about it.
Thanks for any opinions, knowledge and help.
Best,
John

Hi John,

I'm pretty good with the Uggie line, but haven't heard of a model 226. But I have a model 221 which you won't find listed in the Blue Book either.

Can you please post a description and we'll see how it matches up to the currently available Uggie offerings.

Thanks,

Bryan

There was one on GunsAmerica but it's gone. Don't know if it sold or just got yanked.

Hello Bryan:
Just going by memory here.
It has a straight stock of rather plain walnut. Engraving is by hand, about 60 % coverage, and of very good quality but not outstanding.
Coin finish. Double triggers and I can't remember whether ejector or extractor.
What interested me was the gauge, handling and condition. Has been fired but not much and not ill used.
Hope this helps and it could be a 221. The dealer said it was a 226 but what do many of them know?LOL
Best,
John

Why take a chance on buying something that will go caput in relatively short time when one can get something stout for not much more? Just yesterday I have seen lovely DSW in top shape made in late 30s for $1100. Ole' Thuringian pieces don't fall apart like some Spanish offering, you know.

Hi John,

Was it a boxlock or sidelock?

If boxlock, it sounds like a model 40 which is the same as a LCS grade II.

If sidelock, it sounds like it could be a model 75EX which at one time was also called the model 208. No one currently imports the equivalent of this model, which may have been discontinued by Ugartechea.

I doubt if it is a 221, simply because all of the 221's I've encountered (not many, like 5 or 6) have been case colored and have border engraving with carved fences.

Did it have the name of the importer on it? That would help with the ID.

It is a side lock. No importers name on the gun that I remember.
I will go back today and take a look.
Best,
John

Well, I was again in error. There is an importers name. The first world is so ill stamped to be illegible.
XXXX Arms Company, Gardener Mass. Model 226
The only Arms Co in Gardener Mass that I know of is H&R. Three letters and this one seems to have four.

There is a D2 A4 D/1 (D over 1) and 2/4 (2 over 4)
I talked with master gun smith, Stephen Hutton about the gun. He was unaware of the model as well.
I think I am passing on the gun. If some wants it, email me jmann@worldpath.net
It is a very nice 20 gauge and low money for an almost unfired gun.
Thanks, again, for the help with this mystery.
Best,
John
