A friend is describing this to me so excuse the unanswered parts that I know should be included. A Belgium rifle dated 1943 (with the v and a star over it) with 10.3 stamped on the barrel, Nitro proofs post 1924.With a rim daimeter of .550 and a base of .500. The bore is .420. He "thinks" he can feel a end of chamber length of 2". And it is a straight walled cartridge.
I've looked thru COTW and Cart. Conv. by Donnelly with out luck. Any ideas??? Thank You Gentlemen.

Guess would be 10X52R, 10X51R or 10.15 X52R, 10.25X52R or 10.3X61(> 2") or 10.35X65R(>2"). You are correct on little info. In 1943, I would think there would be more stamped info.
Kind Regards,

Hmmm... a bit of a puzzler with just that amt of info. The 12,7mm base and 14mm rim kind of limit the range of cartridges it might be, and 'straight case' with .420" bore (I'm guessing you mean groove diameter) and "about 2 inches" further complicate matters. If it were oh so slightly necked I'd bet on the 10,75x52R Mannlicher (Dixon _European Sporting Cartridges_ vol 1 pp 138-139) as it's about the right size and was popular until the early 1940s. Lacking a chamber cast basically there's no way to tell for certain.

From the dimensions, do you have a case? If so, what is the headstamp?

Thank You for the replies. The rifle is on the east coast and I only have a pic of the stamps on tha barrel. I told him that I'd need a decent chamber cast. I was stumped on this with so little information. I'm not too sure his caliper is even right. He's given me different sizes on the same thing already.

Steve, I think that you've found the right one! I looked thru municions.org and found the measurments for that round. I sent it to him to look over then 'feel' for the slight bottleneck. It'd be so much easier with a decent chamber cast.

I'm still stumped after I got a pic of the chamber casting. The rim thickness is .050 Rim Diameter is .548 Base Diameter is .494 Case length 2.02 Neck diameter is .46
Lands show .413 Groove is .427 Rim to rifling length 2.6"
It doesn't show any necking down. Just a plain straight walled rimmed cartridge. HELP!!??!!

It might be 10.75X65R Grundig if the measurements are correct. Another choicee could be 10.75X65R Collath.

I haven't been able to find that Grundig so maybe... It is about 65mm long and the 10.75 is right. The Collath is too small of a rim and base diameter and no shoulder.
