I've been trying to find information on this maker. I know they were located in Norwich before they were taken over by Gallyons. I know they made A&D boxlocks with their trademark 27" barrels. However, they also made a "Regent" model which was a beautifully made, rounded fancy back boxlock built on the Edwin V Smith self-opening action with all the bells and whistles; disc set strikers, screwed in replacable hinge pin, Boss style rose and scroll engraving, rolled edge trigger guard and all finished to a very high standard. In all my life I've seen only one of these and a photo of another. I'd appreciate any info. Maybe someone knows more than the little I do.

I have a Regent model and you have described it well. Mine was made in 1923 and the assisted opening is a hoot to use. I have copies of a catalog from the period and several nice articles about the Rosson make. If you PM me your address I am glad to send you copies.

khanh, PM sent. I hope to do an article on Rosson at some time. They didn't just make boxlocks. They made best sidelocks with a clever sliding thumb-piece to open the gun. Really interesting and inovative gunmakers but still relatively neglected.

I've got a CS Rosson that must be a minimum of 50yrs earlier. Bar action hammergun w/sidelever if I'm remembering right. I believe it has a wedge key fastener on the f/e which is a fairly early feature.

QTRHS, thanks. I will check that issue. kaveman, I knew that Rosson was around for a long time. They made hammer guns, sidelocks, boxlocks. For all I know they may have made flintlocks back in the day. It just seems that information about the history of the company is difficult to come by. That's strange because their best guns are truly "best"

khanh, could you tell me the serial# of your Regent? Do the first two digits correspond to the year of manufacture?

There was also an article entitled "The Gun"- An excerpt from a book by Charles Fergus. He wrote about travelling to England to buy two doubles-one of which was a Rosson. It can be found in the 1997 Gun Digest.
