I have a couple of Sterlingworths. One patterns really well and the other is not nearly as tight. I measured them and the one that patterns well has a left bbl choke of .031. The one that does not pattern as tightly has an unbelievable constriction of .044. The bore on the last one is very large at .732, the muzzle was .688. Could some of you share your experience on this.
I am assuming that the extreme choke is blowing the patterns.
As both barrels fit on one of the frames I am contemplating making a two barrel set with the rt bbl 13, left 30 and the other bbl .005 & .020. The frame is being restocked to my dimensions.

KMM, I have a Parker with a .040 left barrel that patterns nicely with Wallyworld Fed 7 1/2's. The constriction doesn't sound any worse than some of the turkey tubes. If it has a nice lead angle, it should pattern ok with the right load. Try a different brand/shot size.

As an aside, I've been shooting the Wal Mart Feds for years now, and have patterned them extensively on paper. I haven't seen any significant improvement when I switch to AAs on paper. They're a little stiff for light guns, but I wouldn't trade them for anything with my SX-1.
Also, Academy in north Texas has some 3 1/4 drm 1oz of the same "model". They seem to shoot very well too, and are very clean like the ones above.

I've been shooting the Fed and Win Wallyworld loads in 12 and 20g for years now. I've used them extensively on targets and game. Everytime I pattern them in a new (to me) gun, I'm pleased with their performance. I've shot the Feds 12g 1 1/8 oz, 1 oz, and 7/8 oz/1400 fps loads as well as the 20g 7/8 oz and 3/4 oz/1400 fps loads.

Don't assume that a .044 gun is overchoked causing bad patterns. I have guns up to .055 that pattern just fine. The tightest patterning gun I have patterned in the last 20 years was a Sterlingworth choked more than .040.
