In the past my 1898 Parker DH 12 bore F/F has always been my "go to" turkey gun but this spring I will use my 1892 Parker GH 16 bore F/F with RST shells with 7 1/2 shot. That should be potent enough medicine out to 40 yds. I should think. Dense patterns and head shots have always done it for me.

I'm considering either my bow with a 90g Thunderhead 3 blade or my full choked 28" Win M-42 with 11/16 oz of 6's

So far always used downloaded centerfire rifles, 308, 7X57R, etc. Because of weapon restrictions where I may hunt this year, expect to take my most recently acquired Husqvarna M47 16X65 with whichever load patterns best in its full choke barrel. Gun has one cylinder barrel, in case turkey gets too close before I can shoot.

Randy, yup, that's the same call. The chalk and cedar striker are stored inside the box (along with a possible pocket-rocket of a liquid of your choice for celebration purposes). You remove the cork, chalk the striker, and drag the striker across the extended edge of the box to make it speak. Shoot, just take it all out of the box, drink the liquid and mess with it till you figure it out. It speaks Oceola and Eastern to my direct knowledge, maybe those strange turkey types out west also...Geo
P.S. Tom Gaskins was sort of a legend among Florida Turkey hunters. He hunted well into his 90's and never wore shoes in the woods or camo either for that matter. He told me he once had a close call with another hunter because of camo, so he always hunted in brightly colored Hawaian type flowered shirts;said "just be still". He also opened an Artic Cat snowmobile franchise in South Florida and actually sold snowmobiles to use in the Everglades...and they worked pretty good, I'm told.

Randy you read my mind... with the frustrating duck season we've had around the Chesapeake Bay, spring gobbler season could not get here faster. Here's a gobbler taken with an A.H. Fox A 12b from a Potomac River bottomland just across the river from Mount Vernon: 30" 3-weight bbls choked .036 and .041. I use 2.75" 1 1/4 oz. #5 Winchester Super-X and haven't shot twice yet. And a couple of my hunting buddies: I bought this Fox several years ago with thoughts of restoring it including opening the chokes but it will remain as and is and is my dedicated turkey gun. A Fox Get's the Game... Counting the days... Jerry

For the last two years I've been lucky enough to call a dumb young jake in to about twenty yards, so this year I'm going to try my 20 gauge Ithaca and leave the 870 at home. I've been using a Quaker Boy box call that I really like because I seem to be able to make some realistic noise with it. Last year I used a set of the Renzo's decoys and the jake I called in didn't seem to know what to make of them but he got so close to one of I was afraid it was going to end up with pellet holes in it. Geo, I can't believe you guys can take 3 birds, we only get to take one up here. I'm jealous. My license arrived in the mail this afternoon but May 5th seems like a long way away.

It's traditional for me to carry my 10 gauge Parker EH. Gun was shipped from the factory December 26, 1888. One of the very first hammerless Parkers. Load will be 1 1/4 oz. #5. Photo is from three or four years ago taken in the eastern Panhandle of Texas.

For the last several seasons, and the upcoming one, I have been using my 1908 L.C. Smith 16 gauge Hammer Gun. It is 100 years old this year! I've been using that old gun for nearly 50 years myself. I killed my first dove and first quail with it, and quite a few other game birds and animals with it. It is a very affective Turkey gun.
