Jack, surely the Walrus and the Carpenter could help with the sand?

I'd think the point would be to get rid of that bad ol'toxic lead shot - and not to reload it....make the locals feel better about their well water.
Show the community shooters care about such things - unlike the Chinese.

You fellers really know how to hurt a guy! Lowell, I've bathed in all the best special thinners and cleaning solvents for more than thirty years in the interest of better living thru chemistry. At sixty, I'm not overly concerned about Pbitis except of course from the pov of the greater good. However, I don't strip lead paint with heatguns as I like the customary initial letter on all the words. I'll go beat eckfast now.

I like JayCee's idea of forty maids with forty mops to help the process. Bound to be a good looking one in the bunch. Trap girls? How do we bring them back? David

Ha! Not all of us. Stop by Emmet County Sportsmens Club some Sunday on your next trip to the tip of the mitten and try our 5-hole+ wobble trap. This one throws a target 80 yards in still air. A low hard angle from 1 or 5 will bring you right out of your high heels..

rabbit, I can give you a quick method to seperate sand and stones from shot. This is a method that I use. Put your sand shot mix in a 5 gallon bucket. You will need some help with this. Slowly poor the mix from a comfortable height and have some one blow a stream of air from a leaf blower thrue the cascading mix and the sand and stones will blow out of the stream leaving shot to fall in the bucket. You may need to do this more than once. Put an amount in the bucket that you can comfortably handle. Some experimentation will tweek it so it works good. One buddy made a device that blows the debris out with a fan as the shot falls in a thin steam. We all make different things because we are fabricators or welders and have access to materials. We then tumble the shot with a fan on it to remove the oxide then tumble some more with graphite. This is done in a cheap cement mixer. One of my buddies recently went out himself with a strong blower that blew the shot along the ground until it formed in piles. Of course the sand blew away leaving mostly shot. In two hours he picked up EIGHT HUNDRED POUNDS! I think that was worth a trip to the range. I am constantly hearing how this shot is only good for skeet and spreaders. WRONG! I have seen some shooters bust 60 yd clays consistently with reclaimed shot. I can't do that with new shot.

Hmm, 1/2 ton of shot, Tanky? Some noses in the air will soon be on the ground. Thanks again for the advice on this one. One more question. Is the oxide coating harder than unoxidized lead; is it a possible barrel scorer?

rabbit, I would think that lead oxide is harder than lead but I'm not sure. Many metalic oxides are abrasive. Before I started tumbling the shot I used some like that and the oxide accumulates in the loader and gums things up. So I highly recommend tumbling the shot to knock off the oxide. I haven't noticed any scoring yet and have used hundreds of pounds of it in clay buster wads.
