"I know nothing about this maker, can anyone help?" Frank Garrett Co., Birmingham. 12 bore, 32"barrels, proofed for 1 1/4 oz, double triggers, file cut rib, no safety. Surely a live bird gun. I handled and shot the gun while in Scotland last week. I did a Google search and the gun Drake had on his site is very similar. Any help is appreciated.

Frank Garret, Gun, Rifle and Pistol maker. 7 1/2 Bath Street,1910-1915 15 St; Marys Row 1925 16 St; Marys Row 1930 These addresses are all in the old Birmingham gun quarter. There was also a Frank Garret, listed as a cartridge loading expert. He was in business at Ilmington, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire and later at Evesham. Amongst the cartridges loaded was the Blue Flash Pigeon Cartridge.

Thanks Roy. Anyone know if there is a connection between the St. Marys Row Garret and the Ilmington- Evesham Garret?

Trades, including gunmaking, tended to run in families. So, there is likely a family connection between the Garrets. Also, note that as a Birmingham shop, Garret could have supplied anything a customer was willing to pay for. What he couldn't do in his shop he could easliy get from other shops or from out-workers (some very highly specialized.) Any style of quality grade can come from any shop. It was all about satisfying the customer if said customer was willing to pay the price.

Thanks Don. Nice gun. The information is pretty scarce on Garret.
