My bolt-action .375 H&H arrived in Southern Africa early last month complete with stock cracked across from where the lower tang mates with the wood. Not sure what caused it. But it needs repair.
Caught up on the repair thread of 19 August, but would prefer to drive the rifle to a good stock person in the Washington, DC, Baltimore, MD, Richmond, VA area and grateful for recommendations.
Broken bolt gun stock was the bad news. Good news was my Namibian outfitter had a Josef Just double in .375 H&H rimless magnum. Took duiker (solids) and gemsbok (238 grain softs)with the iron sights.
Regards, Tim

I would go with Ken because the normal go to people near here are in meltdown. If I am wrong, let me know so I can have a new source.

Call Al Edge in Ladysmith, Va. just north of Ashland. 804-448-1119 He does remarkable things with wood and epoxy.

I'll second Al Edge. He's a superb gunsmith, some of whose flintlock and percussion creations can be seen at the NRA's National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, Va.

Thanks all very much. Ken, I'll give a call tomorrow as it's too late to do so now. Will also get an update on the Lefever project! Al Edge sounds promising, too.

Is "Ruffin" related to the gentleman of that name who once wrote articles for various firearms related publications?

Ken,
As you know, today I picked up my .375 (LH bolt-action Dakota 76) from Boone Berlin who lives just down the street in Robersonville from you. His repair of my cracked stock is so well done I cannot pick it out. Boone is a conscientious young gunsmith of great talent and even more promise.
Thanks Ken for the referral.
Regards, Tim

Tim - glad that Boone worked out for you. Both eightbore and I were down to visit Ken and Boone just a couple of weeks ago to discuss projects, Boone and I worked all day on fit and I left my pattern stock and the high end blank with him. Its good to know that someone else is pleased with his work and his outstanding personal qualities.
Cheers and glad your stock came out well.
Stephen Meyers
