Ken;

After your question above I went back to see if I could see the line after 13:14 and I believe I see it at 13:19-13:20 near the top rob.

Kind Regards;
Stephen Howell

Stephen,

Thanks for the second look. I still can’t see it. I probably need more light and have the barrels in hand. The job does look pretty good to me.

Please bear in mind you have three different steels . The original , the new tubes and the weld filler .
These will all have different hardness's and can/will all colour slightly differently .
Some blacking will cover better than others and it was my experience that in some cases the higher the polish the more likely any colour difference will show .

Exactly. Of the few times I’ve had seams laser welded, only once was it less intrusive than a traditional seam done well. Other times, the dissimilar metals just didn’t bode well. I won’t do anymore with welds.

I think many customers want sleeving done on barrels that are fully ribbed with a damaged barrel. The video shows much more work than a fully ribbed gun would require. Aaron, what is your opinion and would you take on a sleeve job on a gun that is fully ribbed?

I’m not sure I follow your nomenclature or its application. Can you expound on it or provide photos?

I have a 16 gauge Lindner Daly with holes from one gun to the other but with perfectly laid ribs. What would you recommend?

Sleeving involves pulling the ribs, cutting off the barrels about 3-3 1/4” from the breach, boring the remaining holes in the “monoblock/breachblock to the same dia as the rim cut, stubbing new barrels into said holes, and relaying ribs. Of course that’s a simplified version.

Judging by your nomenclature I think you might be talking about lining, which is a completely different job although some people confuse the two as similar.

Lining involves boring the barrels their complete length, and installing a full length liner into the original barrels.

I don’t believe anyone in the world is still doing shotgun lining unless Teague is still involved in it?

I only sleeve.

Teague is out of that game.

Best,
Ted
