Posted a question about a side safety on the wrong forum. Please see my original post on the "For Sale" forum. Thanks for any input regarding this.

"I recently saw a Francotte shotgun with a Greener Side Safety offered for sale. Would this gun have been built in the UK with Francotte supplied parts? The top tang shows no signs of there ever being a standard top safety. Has anyone else ever seen one configured like this? All the proof marks are belgium." Austin Hawthorne

Proof would tell you most of this. Makers could make what ever they wanted to make, provided there were no patents or if they paid for their use. Often they could bring in "in the white" parts and fit and finish them up as their own. I have seen Purdey thumb openers not made by Pudey and not made to their level of fit and finish. I have a Lindner with this opening system that is made to a very high finish level. I doubt either action was provided by Purdey.

The most puzzling part of this configuration is the top tang. I've seen other guns that were modified to a side safety but they all started life with a standard top safety on the upper tang.
