Does anybody still send items for checkering to Carol at Ahlman's in Minnesota? I have a Fox Sterlingworth that I just restocked. Tried calling but no answer. thanks, Gil

Correct. Carol is no longer there. She was good; quick turnaround and quality work. They say they are not sure who will replace her nor when.

I would recommend taking a look at acgg.org. There are some checkering specialists listed as well as stockmakers, most of the stockmakers offer checkering services as well.

We've had guys at our club who could do checkering with the best of them. About 25 years ago, when I first joined my club, one guy did excellent checkering and did everyone's guns. He taught someone else how to checker and when he passed away, the second guy took over. He did excellent checkering, too. You should be able to look around and find someone in your area who does checkering. Good luck!!

I used them extensively 25-30 years ago, and she was there at tahat time. I do know that a couple of years ago they had reduced the scope of service. They were only doing 18 and 20 point I believe.
They also did some of the best bone charcoal work I have ever seen. I still have a number of guns they did for me.
I first found them in the late 80's. As a lark, I had found an old 1972 Herter's catalog and called the stockmaking number listed there. Surprisingly, Ahlmann's answered the call. Not surprisingly, old George Leonard's world famous gunsmithing and stockmaking shop had been down the road from Waseca at Ahlmann's.
