Well that’s kind of interesting.

Looks like it’s from the first serial number series. I’m just using my phone right now but can Lindner’s marks been seen at all?

The earliest hammerless Prussian Daly's built on the (then new) A&D patent were numbered (apparently) starting from #1 - even though, obviously, there were Daly hammer guns being built for several years before the first hammerless design was made. I own Daly serial number #7 (with A&D patent use number of 65) which is identical to this gun except in 10 gauge. The earliest gun recorded thus far is #5. (Note that early hammerless sidelever Dalys built on the Lefever patent do NOT share this serial number sequence).

I can't really see any marks of any kind exceept the serial number in two places and a string of numbers against the underrib at the back. It seems to be almost devoid of any marks.

It is also really rough.

What makes us think that this gun is from the first serial number series?

This one was built by Georg Linder or his subcontractors. I do not see any marks to attribute it to son H.A. Lindner, who hung out his gunmaking shingle in 1874. Considering the patent, the gun must have been made in the transition period where Georg Lindner passed the Charles Daly baton to H.A. Lindner.

I could easily be mistaken, but I do not think that H.A. Lindner made a A&D Body Action without belts & braces. All of his had the upper scear. Georg Lindner or his subcontractor made the early typical A&D Body Action. I will do some diggin' when time permits to see if there were any H.A. Lindner quality control marks on a typical A&D Body Action.
